Course Overview
Join us virtually to engage in hands-on learning, experiencing integration of the Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices and the Standards for Mathematical Practice into the Algebra 2 Equivalent Course Discrete Mathematics/Computer Science. Through Communities of Practice DM/CS teachers will be equipped to foster a Discrete Mathematics/Computer Science classroom environment where mathematical rigor meets computational creativity.
Key Outcomes
-
Integrate Core Practices: Apply Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices and the Standards for Mathematical Practice directly into DM/CS instruction.
-
Connect Math to the Real World: Bridge foundational concepts like binary numbers and combinatorics to practical applications in cryptography, QR codes, and cybersecurity.
-
Analyze Logic and Networks: Explore the mechanics of network connectivity and strategic logic using engaging and accessible models like Minesweeper.
-
Implement Computational Creativity: Transition students from theoretical permutations and probability to functional coding, iteration, and recursion using JavaScript.
